U.S.A., of Irvine, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 6,000 2008 Model Year KFX 50 and KFX 90 Youth ATVs. The throttle can fail to return to the idle position when released or could fail to be at idle on start-up. This could result in loss of vehicle control, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the rider.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), KYMCO USA, of Spartanburg, S.C., is voluntarily recalling about 1,700 2008 Model Year Mongoose Youth ATVs. A manufacturing defect in the carburetor can cause the throttle to stick open, posing a risk of serious injury or death to the rider.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 6,000 Model Year 2008 Arctic Cat 50cc and 90cc All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). The speed controller on the recalled ATVs could fail to return to the idle position when the throttle lever is released, or the speed controller could fail to be at idle on start up. This could result in loss of vehicle control, which could result in serious injury or death to the rider.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Honda Motor Co. Inc., of Torrance, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 1,400 Model Year 2008 Honda TRX500 ATVs. The electric power steering shaft of the recalled ATVs could break unexpectedly, resulting in the rider’s losing steering control. This poses a risk of injury or death to riders.

A retention bolt can come loose causing the rear wheels to lock up, which poses a risk of serious injury to the rider.

Water can enter the throttle position sensor and freeze, causing permanent damage if the rider forces the throttle lever. This could cause the throttle to stick open, posing a risk of injury or death to riders.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), KYMCO USA, of Spartanburg, S.C., is voluntarily recalling 1,350 2006-2008 Model Year MXU 500 All Terrain Vehicles. The pivot bolts holding the rear suspension onto the frame can become loose, causing the rear swing arm to detach from the chassis posing a risk of injury or death to the operator.

The rear brake caliper support can crack; this could result in the potential for a loss of the use of the rear brake and subsequently lead to an accident.

The staff of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers who own a Kazuma Meerkat 50 Youth All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) that children are at risk of injury or death due to multiple safety defects with this off-road vehicle. The ATVs, which were imported by Kazuma Pacific Inc., of Stafford, Texas, were found to have several serious defects.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 8,800 Polaris Model Year 2006 Hawkeye 2x4 and Hawkeye 4x4 ATVs. The steering posts can break in the area where the handlebar attaches to the steering post. This can result in loss of steering control resulting in a crash and/or serious injury to the operator.

The ATV's front bearing carrier can fail due to an insufficient amount of material thickness in the area where the lower a-arm and ball joint are attached which can result in a loss of control and a crash and/or serious injury to the operator.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Arctic Cat Inc., of Thief River Falls, Minn., is voluntarily recalling about 1,500 Arctic Cat 90cc DVX and Utility model All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). On the recalled ATVs, the handlebar base mounting bolts, tie-rod ends and tie-rod adjustment locking nuts may not have been tightened to the proper torque during the production process. Operating an affected ATV could cause components to loosen resulting in loss of steering control. This condition could result in loss of vehicle control which could result in injury or death.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Yamaha Motor Corporation U.S.A., of Cypress, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 70,000 Yamaha Bruin 250, Bruin 350 4WD and 2WD, Big Bear 400, Kodiak 400, Kodiak 450, and Wolverine 450 ATVs. The protective boots covering the steering system's tie-rod ends (universal joints) on the recalled ATVs could be pinched during installation or adjustment, cutting a hole in the rubber. If this occurs, grease could escape, and contaminants such as sand or mud could get into the assembly through the hole, causing accelerated wear. This could result in abnormal steering free play. If the ATV continues to be operated without repair, the ball and socket portion of the tie-rod end could wear to the point that they separate, resulting in loss of steering control, which could cause a vehicle crash with injury or death.

Some 2004.5 and 2005 Model Year Sportsman and 2005 Model Year Scrambler 500 ATVs were assembled with possibly defective Electronic Control Modules (ECM) which may fail and overheat. If this were to occur, excessive heat could cause a fire, possibly resulting in serious injury or death.

Vibration from the engine and driveline during long periods of high rpm usage could cause the rear master cylinder reservoir to agitate resulting in brake fluid aeration. A small amount of air bubbles could enter the master cylinder adversely affecting rear brake performance.

The rear axle bearings may have not been sufficiently greased. This may cause a breaking of the bearing which could make the ATV unstable. The operator could lose control of the vehicle which could cause injury to the operator.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), American Suzuki Motor Corp., of Brea, California, is voluntarily recalling about 30,000 Suzuki 2004-2005 model year Vinson and 2005 KingQuad ATVs. Water can enter the throttle lever case and freeze, causing the throttle lever to become stuck and fail to automatically return to the idle position when the rider releases the throttle. If the throttle lever does not automatically return to the idle position when the rider releases the throttle, the ATV will not slow down as the rider expects. The rider could lose control of the ATV and an accident resulting in injury or death could occur.

The age recommendation warning label is missing. Children under 16 years old riding these adult-size ATVs can suffer serious injury or death.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Kawasaki Motors Manufacturing Corp., USA of Lincoln, Neb. is recalling about 9,500 Kawasaki Brute Force™ 750 4x4i All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). On some units, the nut which secures the front upper suspension arm pivot bolt could come loose during vehicle use. Continued use of the vehicle could allow the nut to come off, and the upper suspension A-arm pivot bolt to back partially out. This would result in a loss of steering control, and possibly cause the rider to crash and suffer injury or death.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Amstrong Industry Corporation, Taiwan, R.O.C. is recalling about 1,000 90cc units and 39 50cc units of Kolpin Powersports 50cc and 90cc Youth All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs). Metal-flange locking nuts securing the tie rod assemblies, integral to the steering system on the Youth ATV, can come loose. The resulting unstable steering condition could result in serious injury or death to a rider.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that it has provisionally accepted a settlement that imposes CPSC’s first civil penalty for reporting violations involving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). Polaris Industries Inc., of Medina, Minn., has agreed to pay a $950,000 penalty to settle allegations that the ATV manufacturer failed to timely inform CPSC of serious defects and hazards in certain models of the company’s ATVs.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Polaris Industries, Inc., of Medina, Minn. is voluntarily recalling about 12,170 Polaris "Sportsman 700 EFI" ATVs. The throttle cable may bind when the handlebars are turned full left or full right, resulting in an increase in engine speed and unintended vehicle acceleration. In addition, the fuel line may rub against the vehicle chassis, resulting in a fuel line leak which could be a fire hazard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Bombardier Recreational Products Inc. of Valcourt, Quebec, Canada and Deere & Company of Moline, Illinois, are voluntarily recalling about 23,000 Bombardier and John Deere Buck all terrain vehicles (ATVs). Front brake hose can be pulled out of its retaining brackets on either side of the ATV by foreign objects. This can cause the brake hose to wear by rubbing on the inner wheel or shock absorber spring seat, ultimately causing a brake fluid leak resulting in a complete loss of front braking capacity. This can lead to an increase in the braking distance and possible collision with bystanders, fixed objects, or other vehicles, causing serious injury or death.

Mislocated welds securing the upper front suspension arm mounting brackets to the frame. The mounting bracket could break off during riding, reducing rider control and resulting in loss of control of the ATV. Loss of control could result in a crash and severe personal injury or death.
