  • In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Rhode Island Novelty, of Providence, R.I.; Hayes Specialties Corp., of Saginaw, Mich.; My Bargain Bin LLC., of New Castle, Del.; Ravesupply.com, of Las Vegas, Nev.; Vistawholesale.com, of Greencastle, Ind.; Xtreme Jewelry, of New York, N.Y.; Intertradecorp.com, of Cheverly, Md.; Litesrus.com, of San Jose, Calif.; and Dollar Days International LLC, of Scottsdale, Ariz., are voluntarily recalling about 237,000 Flashing Pacifiers. These pacifiers failed to meet federal safety standards for pacifiers. The nipple can separate from the shield easily, posing a choking hazard. Some pacifiers were sold with necklaces that pose a strangulation hazard, and one of the necklaces has beads that can come loose, which poses an aspiration hazard. Though they are marketed for older children, they could be given to babies, and can cause serious injury or death.

  • UnionTools, Inc., of Columbus, Ohio is voluntarily recalling about 32,000 P-Handle hand trucks. If the tires of the hand trucks are substantially over-inflated beyond the recommended maximum 30 P.S.I., the rims of the tire can separate under the intense pressure and strike the user or bystanders. SunTome Trading Corp., of Los Angeles, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 600 baby walkers. The walkers will fit through a standard doorway and are not designed to stop at the edge of a step.

  • RANS Inc., of Hays, Kan., is recalling about 4,000 long-wheelbase recumbent bicycles. The bicycle's front fork steering tube can break, causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and suffer injuries. Specialized Bicycles, Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 3,500 Specialized-brand bicycles. The frame of the bicycle can break during use causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and suffer serious injuries. Cannondale Corp., of Bethel, Conn., is voluntarily recalling 367 "Carbon Lefty" suspension forks. The bicycle forks can break, causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and suffer serious injury or death. Magura USA, of Olney, Ill., is voluntarily recalling about 360 hydraulic disc brakes. The brakes could fail, causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and suffer serious injuries. Supergo Corp., of Santa Monica, Calif., is voluntarily recalling 125 "PAZZAZ" ATB-98 carbon fiber-wrapped aluminum riser mountain bicycle handlebars and 199 pairs of "PAZZAZ" carbon fiber mountain bicycle "bar ends." The handlebars can crack and break, causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and suffer serious injuries.

    Raymond Geddes & Co. Inc., of Baltimore, Md., is voluntarily recalling about 6,500 Tropical Fish and Rockin' Reptile Push'n Pop toys, which are also known as Zapper toys. The balloon tongues and the cylinders holding the tongues on these toys can detach, which poses choking and aspiration hazards to young children. Giant Bicycle, Inc., of Newbury Park, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 2,400 Giant-brand bicycle front forks. The forks can break during use causing the rider to lose control of the bicycle, fall and suffer serious injuries. Schottenstein and Value City Department Stores, of Columbus, Ohio, are voluntarily recalling about 10,800 candles. The candle flame can ignite the silver paint coating on the candle container, presenting a fire hazard.

One of the toys, a clear plastic ball can crack and break during use, exposing the small beads inside, posing a choking hazard to young children. BSH Home Appliances Corp., of Los Angeles, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 2,300 Thermador® brand combination thermal/microwave ovens. The oven door may not lock properly when the oven is put into the "self clean" mode.

Inc., of Omaha, Neb.; Play By Play Toys & Novelties Inc., of San Antonio, Texas; Rhode Island Novelty, of Johnston, R.I.; Sherman Specialty Co. Inc., of Merrick, N.Y.; Toy Investment Inc., of Kent, Wash.; and U.S. Toy Co. Inc., of Grandview, Mo. The balloon tongues and the cylinders holding the tongues on these toys can detach, posing a choking and aspiration hazard to young children.

The wooden peg in the black and white checked base can come off, presenting a choking hazard to young children.Hangouts, of Boulder Colo., is recalling about 350 baby hammocks. These baby hammocks can suddenly become twisted around childrens' necks and strangle them.ATICO International USA Inc., of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., is recalling about 14,000 lighthouse-shaped candle holders. The wooden top of the candle holder can ignite, presenting fire and burn hazards to consumers.

The front suspension forks on these bikes might not have been welded properly, and can break apart during use, resulting in serious injury to the rider. Frieder Inc., of Bedford Heights, Ohio, is recalling about 35,000 Champion Brand Tools 6-outlet power strips. The wiring in these power strips is undersized and poses shock, electrocution and fire hazards.

    Midland Consumer Radio Inc., of Kansas City, Mo., is recalling 9,000 weather radios because the radio contains a programming error which can cause the device to fail to recognize certain signals broadcast by the National Weather Service.Consumers could fail to receive some National Weather Service notices advising of a severe weather threat putting lives and property at risk. Stihl Inc., of Virginia Beach, Va., is voluntarily recalling about 7,200 weed trimmers, 192 brushcutters and 344 augers because fuel could leak from an unsealed seam in the fuel tank, posing a fire hazard.

    In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), three firms, Stelex Enterprises Inc., of Los Angeles, Calif.; Major Import, of Whittier, Calif.; and LeSa Yang Family Ltd. of Diamond Bar, Calif., are recalling about 912,000 cans of spray string sold under the names "Crazy Ribbon" and "Crazy String." These spray strings' propellant is extremely flammable, creating a serious risk of burn injuries when sprayed near an open flame, such as birthday candles.

    In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Wilmar Corp., of Kent, Wash., is voluntarily recalling more than 16,000 Fluorescent Work Lights. Foremost Tool Co. Inc., of Kent, Wash., is voluntarily recalling more than 1,300 Fluorescent Work Lights. For both recalls, the work lights present fire, electrocution and shock hazards. The lights have undersized wiring, an inadequate grounding system and faulty plugs.

    Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 4,000 Specialized 1999 Allez and Allez Sport model bicycles because the handlebars on these bicycles can unexpectantly come out of the stem which can result in serious injuries to the rider. CPSC and Air Comfort Products Division of Emerson Electric Co., of St. Louis, Mo., are reminding consumers of the recall of about 20,000 ceiling fan installation kits. The bracket holding the fan can fail, causing the fan to fall or hang by its electric wires and the exposed wires could pose an electric shock hazard.

The hairdryers present shock and electrocution hazards because they are not equipped with ground fault circuit interrupters to cut off electrical current in case of contact with water. Gymboree Corp., of Burlingame, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 7,000 toddler boys 5-pocket denim jeans. The waist snap on the jeans can come off, posing a choking hazard to young children.

The nipple on one of the bottles, presents a serious choking hazard to young children. ZNY Enterprises Inc., of New York, N.Y., is recalling about 10,600 novelty and disposable cigarette lighters. The lighters do not have child-resistant mechanisms which present fire and burn hazards.

The quality of the internal components is inadequate, and the cord could separate from the power strip which could result in a fire or shock incident. Raport Inc., of Levittown, Puerto Rico, is recalling about 4,800 extension cords. The wires on these cords are undersized and can be overloaded. They pose a fire and shock hazard. Isaac Morris Ltd., of New York, N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 3,300 Tonka toy trucks. The toy trucks contain small parts, presenting a choking hazard to young children.

    North States Industries Inc., of Minneapolis, Minn., is recalling about 3,200 stairway gates. The locking mechanism can release when the gate is shaken and if placed at the top of the stairs, a child could fall down the stairs and be injured. C & H Trading, of Metairie, La., is voluntarily recalling about 40,000 disposable and novelty cigarette lighters. The lighters do not have any child-resistant mechanisms, as required by federal law, and young children could ignite the lighters, presenting fire and burn hazards.

    The following product safety recalls were conducted by firms in cooperation with the CPSC. Tommy Hilfiger U.S.A. Inc. (Tommy Hilfiger), of New York, N.Y., is recalling about 3,800 infant cardigans. The cardigans' snaps can detach, presenting a choking hazard to infants. Polk Audio Inc., of Baltimore, Md., is recalling the mounting brackets that came with Polk M1, M2, AW/M2 (outdoor), RM5300 and RM5400 speakers. These wall-mounted speakers can have an insufficient amount of adhesive used in assembling the speaker's wall mounting bracket. They can fall off the wall, possibly hitting consumers.

    Two product safety recalls were conducted by firms in cooperation with the CPSC. Dynacraft Industries Inc., of San Rafael, Calif., is recalling about 500 mountain bikes for repair. The front wheel could fall off while the bike is being ridden because the quick release mechanism may be difficult to tighten sufficiently. Tie Rack Inc. (Tie Rack) and Tie Rack Stores Inc. (Knot Shop) of Ontario, Canada are voluntarily recalling about 1,170 sheer silk scarves. The scarves, which fail to meet federal mandatory standards for fabric flammability, could ignite readily and present a serious risk of burn injuries.

    The following product safety recalls were conducted by firms in cooperation with the CPSC. Zany Brainy Inc., of Wynnewood, Pa., is recalling about 220 Miffy Wooden Shape Sorters. Wooden pegs from the shape sorters can break off, presenting a small parts choking hazard to children. Homier Distributing Co., of Huntington, Ind., is recalling about 2,500 Pistol Grip Soldering Guns, model #PGSI30. The wiring on these sodering guns is undersized and the power cord could separate from the soldering gun. Use of these soldering guns poses a fire and shock hazard.

    The following three product safety recalls were conducted by firms in cooperation with the CPSC. 1) Square D Co., of Palatine, Ill., is recalling about 12,200 CSEDs, which are metal boxes mounted on the outside of homes and contain the electric meter and the main electrical breaker panel. When these CSEDs are installed and electrical power supplied, electrical arcing can occur, posing a risk of shock, electrocution and electric burn. 2) Primerica Enterprise, of Deer Park N.Y., is voluntarily recalling about 1,500 trouble lights. The lights have undersized wires, and other internal defects presenting fire, shock and electrocution hazards. 3) Kingsland Tools Inc., of Bell, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 3,900 power strip surge protectors. The power strips have cracked, corroded and loose wires, presenting fire, shock and electrocution hazards.

    Two product safety recalls were conducted by firms in cooperation with the CPSC. Spiegel Catalog Inc. is recalling about 4,200 baby garments made with navy-colored, stretch knit velvet material. The metal snaps can come off of these baby clothing items, posing a choking hazard to young children. Sunbeam Products Inc. is recalling about 8,000 Oster HD120-model hand-held electric hair dryers. These hair dryers do not have a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) or similar device to reduce the risk of electrical shock or electrocution if the hair dryer comes in contact with water.

    Tools Exchange Inc., of Lynwood, Calif., is voluntarily recalling about 2,760 outdoor extension cords. The cords have undersized wires, lack overcurrent protection and have reverse polarity receptacles that allow plugs to be incorrectly inserted, presenting fire, shock and electrocution hazards. Spectrum Fitness, of Loveland, Ohio, is recalling 350 Multi-Purpose Weight Benches, model number NG-14 N. The benches have a metal hinge that can break causing a sudden shift of the bench. The shift can cause the user to lose control of weights being lifted and result in injury.
