The buckles on the carrier shoulder straps can unexpectedly release tension, causing the strap to slip through, posing a fall hazard to the baby.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Ellaroo LLC, of McKinney, Texas, is voluntarily recalling about 1,200 Ellaroo Ring Sling Baby Carrriers. The aluminum rings on the sling carriers can bend or break. This can cause the fabric to slip through the rings and infants to fall out of the carrier.

The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning families nationwide that air mattresses are too soft for use with sleeping infants. Never place infants to sleep on air mattresses or other soft surfaces (such as water beds and adult beds), which are not specifically designed or safe for infant use.

When pool season ends, many parents believe the risk of drowning also ends, but data from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released today indicates 311 reported non-pool drownings from 2002 through 2004 of children younger than five years of age. More than 80 percent of these deaths involved children younger than two years old. The pattern is much different than that observed in pool-related incidents where children younger than two accounted for 38 percent of deaths (involving children younger than five).

Infants can shift to one side of the swing and become caught between the frame and seat, posing an entrapment hazard.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Evenflo Company Inc., of Vandalia, Ohio, is voluntarily recalling about 450,000 Evenflo Embrace Infant Car Seat/Carriers. When used as an infant carrier, the handle can unexpectedly release, causing the seat to rotate forward. When this happens, an infant inside the carrier can fall to the ground and suffer serious injuries.

The radius triple clamps on these motorcycles can crack during operation, posing a risk that the fork of the bike could separate and result in serious injury or death to the rider.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced today that Tiffany and Company, of New York, N.Y., has agreed to pay a $262,500 civil penalty to settle allegations that the company failed to report a hazard with its infant teether rattles. The penalty has been provisionally accepted by the Commission.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), SSC Inc., of Fairfield, N.J., is voluntarily recalling about 4,000 Safe-Seat Plus Model Infant Seats for Shopping Carts. These seats can have a white chalky powder or residue on their surface. It is the UV Absorber that has separated from the seat due to a molding defect that affected some seats produced in one or more molding runs. This could cause skin irritation to children who come into contact with the residue.

A cap on the wire supports inside the soft gym's upright arms can detach, allowing the wire to poke through the fabric. This poses a laceration and puncture hazard to babies.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Dorel Juvenile Group Inc., of Columbus, Ind., is again voluntarily recalling Cosco Arriva and Turnabout infant car seats/carriers to address a problem with the carry handle. On July 8, 1999, the two federal agencies and Cosco, now known as the Dorel Juvenile Group, announced the recall of 670,000 of these infant car seat/carriers made from March 1995 through September 1997. This recall adds 1.2 million of the same model infant car seats/carriers made through January 2000.

The paint on the "smiley face" zipper-pull attached to the sweat jacket of these garments contains lead. Young children could ingest lead from the zipper-pull, presenting a lead poisoning hazard.

It is possible to misassemble the seats of these swings so that they appear secure, but are not. If the seat of the swing is not properly attached, the seat and baby can flip forward.

Reed & Barton Corp., of Taunton, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 200 Powerscourt Sterling Teething Rings, model #WX201. The model number is located on a label on the outside of the gift box, along with "Waterford Fine Silver Gifts." The silver teething ring is about 2.5 inches in diameter, and made of two halves that are soldered together at a sterling silver decorative disc. The teething ring is sold as a keepsake, but also could be used as a teething ring. Waterford® Sterling is embossed on the bottom of the teething ring. Department stores, jewelry stores and gift shops sold these teething rings from March 13, 2001 through October 25, 2001 for about $100.
