Raleigh America Recalls Bicycles; Forks Can Break Causing Loss of Control

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Raleigh America Inc., of Kent, Wash., is voluntarily recalling about 1200 2007 Raleigh Cadent Bicycles with Carbonage Carbon Forks. The forks can break during normal use, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer serious injuries.

Description

The recall involves the 2007 Raleigh Cadent 1.0, Cadent 2.0 and Cadent Carbon bicycle models with carbon forks. "Raleigh" is printed on the down tube of the bicycle, and the model name is printed on the top tube.

Hazards

The forks can break during normal use, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer serious injuries.

Incidents

Raleigh America has received three reports of forks breaking resulting in injuries including a dislocated shoulder, a concussion and a broken jaw.

Remedy

Consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and return them to place of purchase. Raleigh bicycle dealers will replace the forks at no charge.
